Insomnia is an API development platform for designing, testing, debugging, and mocking APIs across REST, GraphQL, gRPC, WebSocket, and Server-Sent Events protocols. It supports a design-first workflow starting from OpenAPI specs, automated collection testing with pre- and post-request scripting, and native API mocking with dynamic responses. The platform also includes a native MCP client for connecting to and testing MCP servers, including inspection of tools, resources, and prompts, and tracking of authentication events.

Collections and API assets can be stored locally, synced via Git, or managed in the cloud with optional end-to-end encryption, and organizations can enforce consistent storage policies across teams. The product integrates natively with Kong Konnect as a source of truth for endpoint discovery, and includes the Inso CLI for validating and linting OpenAPI specs and pushing them to Kong Gateway, Kubernetes Ingress Controller, and Developer Portal within CI/CD pipelines.

The product targets both individual developers and teams within organizations, offering role-based access controls, real-time collaboration with 3-way merge conflict prevention, and enterprise features including SSO via OIDC or SAML, SCIM-based user provisioning, SOC 2 Type 2 certification, and dedicated support with SLAs. A free tier is available with Git sync for up to 3 users, unlimited projects, and unlimited collection runs.
