Retext is a native macOS text expansion application built in Swift. It expands short typed triggers, prefixed with a semicolon, into full snippets of text such as addresses, email signatures, code blocks, and canned responses, working system-wide in any application including email clients, Slack, VS Code, and browsers. Snippets are organized with tags and support dynamic fields such as {date}, {time}, {clipboard}, {fill:...}, and {cursor} that resolve at expansion time.

The application includes an AI feature that generates snippet content from a title and optional prompt; this sends the prompt to Anthropic's API, while all other snippet data is stored locally on the Mac with no account required. It requires Accessibility permissions to detect keystrokes and is notarized by Apple, requiring macOS 15 (Sequoia) or later.

Retext is aimed at Mac users who repeatedly type the same text and want a lightweight, native alternative to Electron-based text expanders. It offers a free tier limited to 5 snippets and 1 AI generation, a Pro plan at $2.50/month (billed yearly at $29.99, or $4.99/month billed monthly) with unlimited snippets and AI generation, a one-time Lifetime plan at $49.99, and team plans starting at $19.99/month for shared snippets.
