About Darkmatter

Darkmatter is a macOS desktop application that provides a CMS-like interface for editing Astro content collections. It reads a project's Zod collection schemas and generates form-based editors for frontmatter, so entries can be created, edited, and deleted without directly modifying config files or Markdown/MDX source. It supports drag-and-drop and paste image insertion, automatically placing files in the correct project folder and inserting the URL (or an Image component for MDX), with images rendered inline in the editor.

The application also handles git operations directly: it prefills commit messages, runs commit and push commands, and can start the Astro dev server to preview content before publishing. Teammates working from an existing clone receive a notification when new commits are available and can update with a single click, without using git commands manually.

It is intended for teams working with Astro sites, allowing non-technical users such as copywriters, marketers, and customer success staff to manage content while developers continue working directly with the Astro codebase. It is distributed as a free download for macOS.
